Visick Cars: Over 110 years of history

Established in 1907, Visick Cars is a 4th generation family business.

1907

Visick Cars is a 4th generation family business. In 1907 the Company started trading in Grove Road Eastbourne by the town hall on a site that was, until recently, used by the Police. Initially the business was simply a garage for cars owned by wealthy individuals that were usually driven by chauffeurs. In those days houses did not have driveways or garages. Over the years the business grew and evolved into repairing and selling cars as well.

1926

In 1926, the Company moved to purpose-built premises in Cornfield Road. The building retains the Cornfield Garage name but is now better known as a Wetherspoons pub. Although they still garaged some cars, the repair and sales side had taken off and accounted for most of the business. Over the years at Cornfield Garage, they held franchises for a diverse selection of manufactures including British Leyland, Citroen, Lancia and Lotus.

1976

Sadly, it was necessary to sell the Cornfield Garage building in 1976 to cover death duties, but they continued trading from smaller premises in Meads Street. The business quickly outgrew that site and moved to a larger industrial unit in Birch Close Eastbourne.

2004

The last move was to the current site on Lottbridge Drove in 2004. These modern premises in a prime location on a major road have allowed the business to expand and further improve their commitment to customer service. With highly skilled technicians, state of the art equipment and a well-appointed customer reception, the Company continues to go from strength to strength more than a century after its inception.
